ABOUT US

Nottingham Cycle Tours is run by local people, set up to provide guided cycle tours in and around the city of Nottingham for businesses (team building/staff social), tourists, students or residents alike. We cater for teenage children upwards with basic cycling competence. Our tours are typically 90% off road and offer a unique and fun way to really get to know our city. Our guides will highlight the key landmarks to help our customers understand the city’s rich, and sometimes dark, history through the ages.

WHAT WE DO

We will provide the definitive Nottingham experience for our customers. Whether you are a business (team building/staff social), tourist, student or resident, this is a great way to gain a unique perspective into the history and growth of our city through its places, events and people.

All tours start and finish at the train station opposite Starbucks and Tesco Express. Alternative start/finish locations are viable for a group of sufficient size.

See our Facebook (click here) and Instagram (click here) pages for a taste of what we are about.

Nottingham Cycles Tours, in partnership with Institution of Civil Engineers, provides an annual Engineering inspired tour in June, in celebration of the contribution engineers make to society. Click here for an example.

WHERE THE TOURS GO

Corporate Event Tours

We provide corporate events, ranging from 'spinning the legs'/get some exercise, staff socials, through to more structured team building events, based around orienteering/team building activities. We weave this in with our local knowledge, using mainly off road routes. We typically finish at a cafe/pub/restaurant. We can plan a bespoke package, and manage all the logistics, including bike hire (we work in partnership with www.russellsbicycleshed.co.uk). We are fully insured and are first aid trained.

City Tour

Train Station (START/FINISH), River Trent Embankment, Sports Arenas, Canal, Contemporary Art Gallery, Lace Market, Old Market Square, Theatres, Park Tunnel, Castle, Cycle Super Highway. Ancient paths and gateways, cave history, tunnels, lost railways, churches and fantastic Gothic and Victorian architecture. People, events, funny anecdotes - you name it, Nottingham has it all.

Extended City Tour

As the City Tour plus award winning University Campus', Wollaton Hall and Deer Park.

Engineering Tour

Train Station (START/FINISH), Canal, Cycle Super Highway, Park Tunnel, Arboretum, Forest Recreation Ground, New Basford Tunnel, Jubilee Campus, River Leen and River Trent. The inventors/innovators of tarmac, traffic lights, pressurised water, magnetic resonance imaging and Ibuprofen.

'Aye Up Notts' Voluntary Tours

Leen Cycling/Nottingham Cycle Tours is very much about getting residents out on bikes, either under your own steam or on an electric bike. It's great for your physical and mental health, and it reduces air pollution, what's not to like? We organise and run British Cycling Guided Rides, once or twice per month all year around - Saturday mornings (and Thursday evenings during the summer). See the British Cycling Lets Ride website and search Nottingham (click here)

Bespoke Tours

If you have a specific requirement for a route (hilly, flat, waterside, 95% off road, fast/testing, a specific A-B-A, night rides etc) then please get in touch as we are happy to design a route as we have detailed knowledge of cycle ways and routes all over the city. We can also tailor tours for specific topics (rebels, inventors, old railway routes, including hidden tunnels and former stations). Please enquire.

Long Distance Tours

We typically do 2-10 day long distance tours around the UK 6-7 times per year, enjoying the amazing countryside and cities of the UK. Tours such as Newcastle to Carlisle via Edinburgh and Glasgow, including rest days. North Coast 500, components of National Cycle Route Route 1 - Dover to John O'Groats, to name a few. Please enquire if you would like to join us for part or all of this tour. We can also tailor a bespoke route to suit your plans, whether your destinations are 50 miles or 300 miles apart, we can tie them together for you. We can provide a competitive price for your specific needs, including transport, hotels and other general logistics to make your tour as smooth, enjoyable and as hassle free as possible. Please contact us for any of your route ideas, our updates, and additional tours as our 2 day weekend excursions are generally planned at shorter notice. See our Facebook (click here) and Instagram (click here) pages for a taste of this type of tour.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: HOW DO I PAY?

A: For our business and long distance tour customers - upfront in two stages via bank transfer. All other tours pay in cash at the start of the tour.

Q: WHAT TRAINING DO YOU HAVE?

A: Both of your guides are British Cycling Ride Leader trained, which includes Emergency First Aid training.

Q: WHAT IS THE LENGTH AND DURATION OF THE TOURS?

A: The city based tours last for a maximum of 3 hours and are no longer than 13 miles. However, the length and duration can be reduced to suit rider ability and weather conditions. Other tours subject to customer requirements and route design.

Q: ARE THE BICYCLES AND HELMETS INCLUDED IN THE PRICE SHOWN FOR THE TOURS?

A: Bikes are included in the city based tour prices for the bikes that we own. For larger groups we will need advanced notice and an additional supplement of £5 per bike will apply. Helmets are recommended but are not compulsory. Bikes can also be hired from Russell's Bicycle Shed directly www.russellsbicycleshed.co.uk.

Q: ONE MEMBER OF OUR GROUP HAS LIMITED CYCLING EXPERIENCE, WHAT SHOULD WE DO?

A: We do not recommend our tours for such a person as we require cyclists with a reasonable level of competence and confidence on a bike. But we would love to see them when they are up to speed in the future, something that we definitely encourage them to do!

Q: CAN YOUNG CHILDREN DO THE TOUR?

A: Children below secondary school age cannot participate unless accompained by an adult who will take full responsibility for their supervision. A minimum height of 1.35m or 4'6" applies for bike sizing, unless the customer provides the bike.
